homo ecos: news

Testimonials:

ILZE LIPSKA

We all want to live in a beautiful, clean and healthy environment, right? But just wanting it is not enough. If we want to make it happen, we need to do something about it.
I am really glad that there is an organization like “homo ecos:”, which makes people remember that we can create our own environment.
“homo ecos:” inspires and invites you to participate – even with a single green commitment each year. Having started, you will feel how natural it is to take care of your own environment!

DACE RUKŠĀNE

I already have a second home (in the countryside) but my third home is without a doubt “homo ecos”. It is a calm, bright and responsive environment, where even at the busiest moments people find time to listen to you.
Environmental organizations are sometimes seen as extreme or aggressive, but “homo ecos:” is definitely nothing like that. The organization is made up of all kinds of people who believe in patience and kindness, and take every possible step to live green.

I really sympathize with the “homo ecos” approach: don’t just talk, but give practical examples. The world is full of websites that theorize and moralize, but don’t give you any realistic advice. I respect that “homo ecos”  tries to answer the question of how to achieve a greener, happier lifestyle.
One of my best experiences was participating in a project that made us think about food – what to eat, buy, prepare, throw away.
“homo ecos” addresses Latvian topics, but they really apply to the entire planet. As Imants Ziedonis said: if you want to change the world, start in your own backyard!

“homo ecos:” has turned my life a few degrees into a greener direction. I am still amazed at the results of the two-week “food waste” experiment, when I recorded and weighed food waste in my home.
Sometimes I wonder: why didn’t I think of that interesting idea?! “homo eocs” has introduced all kinds of nice initiatives to Latvia and abroad, such as ‘ecoterrism’ (seed bombing) or revitalizing the Sarkandaugava river banks with sunflower gardens. I am delighted by the Green Toolbox – an e-book full of ideas for organizing green events.

ĀRIS ADLERS

It’s nice that Latvia has a non-governmental organization that does not just work for one particular interest group, but thinks about improving the world in which we all live – getting people to think about their actions and how our actions affect the environment and even global processes.
Talking about food sovereignty was one of those times when I wase able to be a little idealistic among people who care about what they eat themselves and the benefits of their actions for society, the economy and the environment.
