In August 2011, homo ecos: (together with the project group Pēdu stāsti) organized the youth exchange* “Speak for Nature”.
The exchange brought together youths between 18 and 25 from Latvia, Austria, Bulgaria and Romania. The youngsters participated in lectures and workshops about animals and nature. What’s more – they learned to be Nature’s voice, through photography, video and online blogging. You can listen to the particpants’ voices on their blog.
My most memorable experiences during the exchange were our excursion to Slītere National Park, and the lesson about insects. With small animals and insects, you really have to know where to look – but then you can find so many things! It made me re-think the concept of “home”: for some animals, even a dead tree can be a home.
